While this is true sometimes, you want to be very careful not to pick the wrong exercises or utilize the wrong form with those exercises. The hyperextension machine being one of the most common mistakes for trying to work your low back.

Too often, people try to overextend when they bring their body up, therefore pinching down on those lower back muscles and only making the discomfort worse.

So instead of doing that, stop just before you body is straight and go into the next rep so that you can stimulate the low back muscles without overextending them and causing them to hurt the next day.
